Lia Rochas-Pàris

Half Portuguese and Swiss-German, Lia Rochas-Pàris grew up in the Parisian art world as the daughter of an artist and a contemporary dancer. She lives in Chinatown with her daughter, Liv, in Paris’ 13th arrondissement where they both enjoy the lively art, costumes and dance. “I grew up in a very unconventional mind frame and a lot of creative freedom,” She remembers. “Which allowed me to develop my own creative process, mainly focusing on collages,” while also keeping up with her studies. Lia started with a master’s degree in Art’s Aesthetic, and then a second one in Design and Digital Art. She is a multifaceted artist who doesn’t hide her need to constantly research, learn and understand. “I always needed some kind of theoretical aspect to challenge my mind.” She defines another reality, from different elements while keeping some kind of duality as a motor of creation...

From Amsterdam to London with Jade van der Mark

Working in a quiet and peaceful environment, the only sound you can hear in her London studio is a song by Philip Glass. The melodies intertwine themselves with the strong smells of oil paint. Most of the time, Jade Van der Mark works in a dressing gown and fluffy pink socks, keeping warm with a cup of coffee or green tea. She is surrounded by her large paintings of group portraits - canvases that are three or four meters long.  


“I usually keep the area in which I work to myself, as it gives me the feeling of being safe so that I can express myself in the sincerest way. I am often reluctant to let other people into what I see as a very personal place, even my mother needs to be quite persuasive in order to be let in! In my studio, time seems to stand still.”...

Shared feelings of distress, anxiety and sometimes, loneliness. Shared loneliness, a contradiction in itself - and somehow a reality, festering our society way before the pandemic came to shake us off our feet...
