Marrakesh and Beyond

Marrakesh, one of the major cities of Morocco, is located at the base of the Atlas Mountains, near the desert. Also called the "Red City" for its red sandstone walls and buildings, Marrakesh is influenced by the Berber culture - the descendants of the pre-Arab inhabitants of North Africa.

Wandering throughout the labyrinthic streets and alleys of the Medina, taking in all the souks and seeing the mythical UNESCO World Heritage site, Jemaa El Fna square, you’ll get a unique, overwhelming feeling that awakens all the senses. A visit to the palaces, the madrasas, and the markets will take you on a journey to the past. The hustle and bustle of the traders, the rush of the food stalls, the beautiful and colorful merchandise, the spices, the lanterns, the tapestries…the smells and flavors are inebriating.

There is so much to explore in Marrakesh, but you shouldn’t miss a quick trip outside the city, either, in pursuit of adventure in the desert of Morocco. While on the way to the desert, take a stop at the amazing Ait Ben Haddou, in Ouarzazate, where many movies and TV shows, including the Game of Thrones, were shot, or the village of Zagora where astonishing architecture surrounds you.

From the perspective of a photographer like me, who loves to capture the culture and the people of the places they visit, these places offer the perfect, ‘photogenic’ ambience.
